Welcome to the technical activities page of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS). The CIS technical activities cover many exciting technologies in computational intelligence (CI) and their applications in a wide variety of areas. CI aims to mimicking nature for effective problem solving and the CIS technical activities promote scientific research, technological development, practical applications, and knowledge dissemination in CI. We currently have 11 Technical Committees (TCs), which can be grouped into the following three categories: (i). Technology-oriented TCs promote CI technologies. They are TCs on:
(ii). Application-oriented TCs deal with applications of CI technologies. They are TCs on:
(iii). Incubator TCs identify and nurture new CI technologies and new areas for CI applications. They are TCs on:
In addition, we have the Standards Committee, dealing with standards, data sets, and software of interest to people working in CI, and the Technology Transfer Committee, promoting transfers of CI technologies to the industry. The main purpose of these Committees is to provide a home for technical activities for the CIS members, as well as the research community in general. Specific responsibilities of the TCs include fostering the scientific and technological development in their specific area, proposing conferences and workshops, organizing invited sessions for existing conferences, editing special issues in the Transactions and the CI Magazine, and cooperating in nomination of awards candidates. Each TC may establish a number of Task Forces (TFs) in specialized foci within its own area of interest. The CIS Technical Activities Committee consists of the chairs of the above committees and is chaired by the Vice President for Technical Activities. Technical committees are our grass-root organizations. Your active involvement can help to shape your and our future. There are many ways in which you can participate in the Society's technical activities. For example, you may promote a particular research area or CI methodology, organize special sessions in CIS-sponsored conferences, or propose a special issue in our journals. If it becomes evident that your topic has sufficient relevance and interest with the CIS, you can propose the creation of a TF and be appointed as the TF chair. If the activities and interests of a TF become highly visible and outstanding, and if the topic has its own autonomy, the TF can be considered for a possible promotion to a TC. At the beginning you can simply consider to cooperate proactively with the existing TCs, their TFs, and their technical activities. Your ideas, cooperation, comments, criticisms and suggestions will be highly valuable to the whole CIS. Join in the technical activities! Contact the appropriate TC Chair, TF Chair, or me.
